Dental implants are essentially artificial tooth roots. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, support a denture or restore an entire mouth.

Implants are made of titanium. Titanium unlike other metals is not rejected by the body. Titanium is very strong and is biologically inert. To be a candidate for a dental implant your gum tissue should be healthy and there must be enough bone present to support the implant.

We provide dental implant services for all kinds of cases. We diligently maintain a "teamwork" approach in out treatment planning and placement of dental implants. Our team of specialists maintains communication with the referring dentists and creates an environment where everyone plays an important part in the success of each treatment.

We also maintain a close network with other specialists in the area eg. prosthodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, endodontists and orthodontists, to help us in our multd-isciplinary and complex cases.

Following the extraction of a tooth the supporting bone begins to shrink both in height and width. Even if the bone shrinkage has been extreme an implant may still be an option. Depending on the situation, we may be able to grow back the lost bone using regenerative procedures so that an implant can be placed. We can also use a computerised method (procera software) of placing your implants for added accuracy and safety when required.

When you visit our practice, we want your experience to be comfortable and relaxed. As part of this, it is important that you understand how you will fl ow through your dental implant appointments.

Your dentist

Periodontist You will be referred to our practice by your dentist to help with a more specialised area of your dental health. Here we will examine you and then discuss your treatment options and present requirements and costs to you.

Radiograph & CT Scan These may need to be taken. The results will be sent back to our practice ready for your next appointment.

Periodontist With all the information now at hand, we can discuss your treatment further, including any more complex areas.

Your dentist or prosthodontist At this stage of your treatment you are ready to go back to see your dentist or their preferred prosthodontist to plan the placement of your crown or denture on top of the implant.

Periodontist Now you are ready for the placement of your implant and any auxiliary surgeries.

Your dentist or prosthodontist Your fi nal destination as part of this treatment will be with your dentist or their preferred prosthodontist to place your crown or denture over your implant. Maintenance of the gums around your implant is also advised and will be carried out initially by your periodontist.
